…let me start right at the beginning. Xiaojun was already scheduled to debut with WayV when he entered WayV so when he arrived at SM Yangyang treated him to dinner (WayV-log 190429 and this). They were probably roommates since the start which is why they were basically forced to get along and their close bond was visible even predebut as they were seen spending time together when they hadn‘t been announced as rookies but were known as hidden trainees.
Nowadays we know that they have many interests in common that were already their hobbies before they became trainees like gaming, dancing, and music (Xiaojun plays the piano, Yangyang the violin so both of them grew up with classical music). Whenever they were seen together predebut they were next to each other like at the TVXQ concert on 180614 before they were revealed, 180928 at Everland Park and when they were spotted at the airport last year where their first official fansite pics come from.
They were sat next to each other in their first ever live stream on 190117 (like in most interviews) and it was easy to follow their interactions and they are as close as they possibly can be, not just focusing on the comments on Yangyang‘s phone together but also discussing small things amongst themselves whenever they didn‘t want to share it with the microphone. They‘re in each others fansite pics very often and stick together at airports. When WayV is filmed as a group and one of them joins the group they will most likely seek each other‘s company and end up standing next to each other.
Remember Valentine‘s Day? Yangyang gave Xiaojun the Ferrero Rocher he posed with in the photo he uploaded and Xiaojun then very calmly showed off the chocolate in the video he posted and wrote a comment under Yangyang‘s post, thanking him for the chocolate. And a month later on White Day Xiaojun posted a selfie of the two of them.
They also have a lot of moments that are definitely not just for the cameras and their friendship is so sweet, especially regarding their selfies (I still want that Xiaodery and the Xiaoyangdery selfie though >.<). They value each other a lot, know each other well and what you can really see in Xiaojun‘s Research Note and the video of them doing acrostic poems is they have an incredible chemistry between them that I cannot emphasize enough.
Xiaojun literally said in the Nylon interview that he‘d take Yangyang to Mars with him out of all the members, because they would always have something to talk about. Yangyang said that Xiaojun is the easiest to tease out of the members (Shenzhen fansign) but he also has a high EQ (Research Note) so he basically doesn‘t make Yangyang feel bad or guilty about teasing him. Playfully insulting and teasing each other is the basis of a healthy friendship because it shows that your friends know you‘re not actually being mean, so this is probably my strongest point in this.
Based on my observations Xiaojun is probably closest with Yangyang in WayV and the other way around and I really really want them to collaborate in the next season of Rainbow V please make it happen, boys!
